VCE / VCAL / VET – 2021

We have had an excellent start to our Year 10 program. Obviously with us moving to Year 11 in 2021, there will be more new things happening at the school.

Information for parents and students:

  • The Year 11 curriculum will be based on what subjects students have picked this year. We will be adding some internal VET subjects and will be able to offer external VET subjects. Subjects that run will be dependent on student numbers in classes and will be made after subject selection occurs;
  • Subjects that we don’t offer here at the school may be able to be completed via distance education so we will be investigating all options to ensure students get a very rich program to cater for their needs;
  • Subject selection will not occur until Term 3. This is so that students have tasted not only the subjects they have completed in Semester 1, but will have also begun their Semester 2 subjects. This way they will be making selections with a greater knowledge of what is involved in all subjects;
  • Students who are in Year 10 next year may be eligible to undertake a VCE or VET class. This will be done in consultation with staff and to meet the needs of students to give a full VCE/VET/VCAL program;
  • We will once again be running VCE subject selection nights and information evenings to ensure that we give both students and parents a solid information base to make decisions.

We will be ensuring all parents and students will know about the dates that we will be running information sessions and subject selection well in advance of when these will occur.

If any parents have any questions please do not hesitate to contact me on (03) 9401 3919

Shrove Tuesday  - 25th February

CSEF (Camps, Sports & Excursions Fund)

The Camps, Sports and Excursions Fund (CSEF)  provides funds for eligible students to assist with the cost to attend camps, sports and excursions.

Families holding a valid Health Care Card or Pension card (valid means-tested concession card) or temporary foster parents are eligible.  New families to The Lakes South Morang College need to apply at the office before 28th February 2020.

If you have already applied at The Lakes you do not need to re-apply each year, unless you receive a new Health Care Card or Pension Card.   Parents new to the school this year will need to reapply at our school, as applications do not transfer from one school to another.

$125 per year will be paid for eligible primary school students and $225 per year will be paid for eligible secondary school students directly to the school and be tied to the student.  CSEF has very strict guidelines and cannot be used for iPad payments or Curriculum Charges.

IMPORTANT NOTE FOR STUDENTS AND FAMILIES

It is important that all students are not to practise any acrobatic skills, cheer-leading stunts and/or tumbling as well as advanced dance movements outside of scheduled MAD/Dance/Production classes.

These activities require direct supervision and assistance by qualified teachers in a safe training environment. Failure to adhere to this could result in injury. We ask that parents make their children well aware of the significance of this matter.

Thank you,

Cam Taylor and The Arts team

Belongings, Ambulance & Insurance

Private property brought to school by students, staff or visitors is not insured and the Department of Education does not accept any responsibility for any loss or damage.

Parents are reminded that the Department of Education does not provide personal accident insurance or ambulance cover for students. Parents and guardians of students who do not have student accident insurance/ambulance cover are responsible for paying the cost of medical treatment for injured students, including the cost of ambulance attendance/transport and any other transport costs.

Respect

Our school needs to be a safe place for all.  Abusive and aggressive behaviour toward others is not acceptable.

I encourage everyone to take a breath and think about their actions.

Abuse will not be tolerated and I urge you to be positive role models and remind you of the parent/principal agreement which outlines our expectations.

Thank you to the families who have provided some welcomed feedback on how smooth the year has begun.   This is always passed on to staff.

Bikes and Scooters

All bikes and scooters are to be secured in bike enclosures with your own padlocks. We are not able to place them in offices as this creates an OHS issue.  Please wear a helmet when on bikes or scooters to protect your head!

Can You Help a Lakes Student?

This year for the first time our school has Year 10 students and we are keen to assist them in finding opportunities for work experience from 15th June – 19th June 2020, and furthermore some part-time work.

Our students demonstrate respect, teamwork, resilience and would give you their best efforts.
