Measurement and Geometry
Miss Dylan has been very excited about the Maths happening in her classroom.
Year 2D was asked to investigate the area of their English books. The children started by covering their exercise book in Unifix blocks and then counting the blocks one at a time.
Soon, some students began to problem solve and came up some more efficient strategies.
Milly ran out of time halfway through covering her book. She had to find a quicker way of doing it! She decided to extend just one of the rows. Milly then realised that there were ten blocks in each row.
Minty and Lachie did one row and one column and then counted by tens.
James figured out that there were 14 rows of ten and multiplied 10×14.
The answer was 140!
Fantastic work, Year 2D and Miss Dylan!
