Principal's Message

Mr Graham Jones

COVID-19

As you are all aware, the Corona virus pandemic is having a profound effect on schools and society as a whole. I have been acting on the directives given to me by the Department of Education to ensure we are using best practice at all times in regards to social distancing and hand-washing at the school. All assemblies and gatherings have been cancelled until further notice and time has been built in to ensure the children are washing their hands before and after breaks as a minimum.

As a result also, many upcoming excursions, carnivals, professional development and visitors to the school have been cancelled. This is to minimise interaction with persons from outside of our community and thus, slow the spread of the virus. Toward the end of the term I will be reviewing events scheduled for Term 2 and evaluating our participation based on further advice at that time.  Having said all of this, I want to reassure you all that Boorowa Central School continues to be a safe environment with dedicated staff focused on delivering high quality, engaging lessons for all students. Even though it is unsettling times for all, the students are resilient and have adjusted with no issues what-so-ever.

Scheduled work

The Food Technology room upgrade is nearing its end with the refurbishment due to conclude at the end of next week. I had a sneak peak yesterday and it is already looking fantastic. I cannot wait to officially open the room and allow the students to access and use this great facility.

Also we have plenty of scaffolding in the secondary section of the school which has been erected to keep the crew replacing the roof safe. They are approximately half way through their stay here at BCS and are working hard to complete their work with minimal disruption to school operation.

HSC Misadventure

The Department of Education and NESA are in negotiations presently to determine the impact of Covid-19 on the current HSC cohort. When a plan has been formulated it will be communicated with each school and I will be enacting these provisions to ensure our students have every chance to succeed. I will keep you posted.

Breakfast Club Donation

A huge thank you to the Rye Park branch of the Red Cross for their generous donation toward our breakfast club. The donation will ensure that empty bellies will be filled with nutritious breakfasts foods and enable young minds to be focused when learning.  The students are very fortunate to have your support.

Despite the challenges I have faced this week, it has still been a great week at BCS - like every  week. Thank you everyone for your ongoing support of the school.
