From the Librarian
During the last week of term, we tend to see a few things coming to fruition. The hyacinth bulb we’ve had growing in a special water vase to display its roots, has bloomed today, as have two Mr Simons had for his science classes. The children have waited all term for it to sprout roots and then leaves, leading up to the flower head.
One class, Mrs Watson’s year twos, even developed a Maths project out of this with the students studying the colours on the bulb packet and working out the probability for a particular colour to appear in the petals. Well done Year 2!
Some of the weaving projects, too, have reached a special stage. Sienna’s mat, woven week by week on one of the peg looms, is a fine piece of work. I’m always interested in seeing the students select their colours and different yarn textures for their craft. This term I saw something new … another year 2 student, using the same technique as Sienna, chose a range of colours and then worked in stripes of various widths. I asked Sophie about it and she explained what she was doing … weaving a hamburger! The piece of weaving has gone home now but I can describe it … inside the bread roll top and bottom were stripes representing meat, sauce, lettuce and cheese! Very impressive!
There has been a lot happening at the book desk as students return books and then borrow for holiday reading. Do encourage your young ones to find time to read during the holidays. We hope it will be a safe and happy time for you all.
