ONIGIRI ACTION PROJECT
What is Onigiri?
Sometimes also known as “omusubi,” onigiri are triangular rounded balls of rice. Most are wrapped in nori (seaweed) so that they are easier to hold. They are often used as a portable food that you don’t need chopsticks or tableware to eat... a type of Japanese fast food! It is common for onigiri to contain filling, such as grilled salmon, pickled plums, kelp, and many other varieties. Onigiri are readily available at convenience stores and supermarkets at about 100 yen ($1) apiece.
Table for Two’s Onigiri Action Project is back in 2019! Some of you may remember last year our students all made ONIGIRI “Rice Balls” in class to assist this worthy project. We are studying different topics this year, however you can still help at home by making onigiri and uploading your photos!
For every post uploaded, partner organisations will donate 5 school meals to children in need.
Your Onigiri post provides 5 school meals to someone in need!
