Principal's Report

Sleepovers

Last week I had the pleasure of participating in the grade 2 sleepover.  I was one of the lucky adults who got to head home to my own bed after supper, but I did see enough to know that our staff did a great job in planning and running the event and that our students were having a lovely time.

All of the students were very brave and stayed the night, which is an excellent effort.  The grade 2 sleepover is a perfect preparation for grade 3 camp at Queenscliff, which challenges the children to have a night away from home and out of town.

Good luck to our Scotsburn P-2s who have their sleepover on Thursday night.  The weather for this event will be a little better than the conditions endured by the grade 2s at Buninyong on Friday night.

Uniform Survey

We had a fabulous response to the uniform survey, receiving 136 responses.  Thanks to all who took the time to provide feedback.

Our Uniform Sub-Committee now has the task of collating the responses, which will be discussed at our next PLP meeting.  The Uniform Sub-Committee will then make recommendations to School Council.

Parent Involvement in Strategic Planning

Last week I mentioned how we are in the midst of writing a new Strategic Plan following the School Review completed in term 2.  There remains an opportunity for parents to get involved in working parties that have been set up to undertake this work.  The two working parties meeting in the coming few weeks are:

  • Student Engagement
  • Community Engagement

If you are interested in being part of one of these working parties, please give me a call.

ORGANISING CLASSES FOR 2020

A reminder to parents that the process of organising students into classes for next year will begin soon.  If there are significant issues we need to be aware of when allocating your child to a class, please make sure they have been made known to Bernie, Dave or Scott by Monday, November 11th.   Teachers are meeting soon after to begin sorting children into classes.

It is not our intention to provide parents with the opportunity to select a teacher of choice.  We have developed a very strong teaching team and parents can be confident the needs of their child will be met by any member of our team.

Developing well-balanced classes is best for everyone and that can be made difficult if there are large numbers of requests – as such, it is important that  placement requests be founded on significant reasons and not related to specific teachers.

We try to accommodate parent requests with regard to student placements, but you will understand this is not always possible.

It is also important when we come to organise classes that we know of students who will not be at our school next year. If your family is moving on, please let us know as soon as possible.
