Principal's message

Dear Parents and Carers

Thank you to the parents who nominated for School Council this year.  We were not required to conduct an election as the number of nominations equalled the number of vacancies.  This year we welcome Alida de Rooij-Smith, Anthea Rhodes, James Fletcher and Sam Day.  Our first meeting will be on Wednesday 27th February where the School Council office bearers for 2019 will be elected.  Full details of our School Council will be posted on the school website following the first meeting.

Anaphylaxis Policy

We have a number of students at our school who are at risk of anaphylaxis.  Anaphylaxis is a severe, rapidly progressive allergic reaction that is potentially life-threatening. The most common allergens in school-aged children are peanuts, eggs, tree nuts (cashews), cow’s milk, fish and shellfish, wheat, soy, sesame, latex and certain insect stings. Although allergic reactions are common in children, severe life-threatening reactions are uncommon and deaths are rare. However, deaths have occurred and anaphylaxis must therefore be regarded as a medical emergency.

The majority of students at risk of anaphylaxis at our school are allergic to nuts. We therefore ask our families to consider the safety needs of children at risk of anaphylactic reaction before sending their child to school with nut products such as;

- Raw or cooked nuts of any type (peanuts, almonds, cashews, pistachios, macadamia nuts, etc.)

- Nut spreads of any type (e.g. peanut butter, Nutella, etc.)

- Products which contain nuts and are labelled as containing nuts (e.g. chocolate bars with nuts, stir fry lunches with nuts, almond cakes, etc.)

We appreciate your understanding and hope you will support the children who are affected by this condition. The children dealing with these allergies will feel supported knowing that other children are not bringing in particular, peanut and other nut-based spreads and products to school.

We also recommend that our families are aware of how to administer an epi-pen in the event a child or adult suffers an anaphylactic reaction.  The following link has a brief video showing how to administer an epi-pen.  This link is suitable to show your children.

School Values

Within the Clifton Hill Primary School community, we foster resilience through teaching and modelling the following values:

  • Kindness and Empathy
    • We speak and act with consideration, friendliness and respect.
    • We try our best to understand the feelings and experiences of others.
  • Gratitude
    • We show appreciation for what we have and what others do for us, and we give back in return.
  • Inclusiveness
    • We embrace difference, treat people fairly and create opportunities so that everyone feels like they belong.
  • Critical and Creative Thinking
    • We question and analyse the world, and we look for new and innovative ideas and solutions.

We hope to see our community using this language and modelling behaviour which supports our values.

I would encourage all parents to read our Student Engagement and Inclusion policy which can be found on our school website (http://www.cliftonhillps.vic.edu.au/main/parents/policies).

This policy outlines the rights and responsibilities of students, staff and parents in our community.  It is a document that underpins the way we expect everyone to interact within our school community, regardless of whether they are on the school grounds or not.  Interactions on and outside the school grounds should be conducted with respect and in a manner that is not threatening or intimidating, and which support our school values.

Early Pick Up from School

A reminder that if you are picking up your child from school before 3:30pm, you need to sign them out via the Compass Kiosk at the office.  A staff member will call your child to the office.
