Walking School Bus

Who wants to 'walk-pool'? (It's like car-pooling, only better!)

Hi fellow CHPS parents!

Ri Scarborough here. I'm mum to Harvey in grade 4 and Lucinda in Grade 1. Lately, I have been thinking a lot about how we could make walking our kids to (and from) school a little easier. We all know that walking to school is great for physical and mental health, and helps reduce traffic congestion around the school! And there are a lot of parents who would love their kids to walk more, but just don't have the time to walk with them every day and make sure they get there safely. But I realised so many of us *could* be sharing walking responsibilities with other parents - "walk-pooling" - and making each others' lives easier, if only we knew where the others lived, what days the other parents were walking, and how to contact them!

So, to help everyone, I'm creating a private Google map, that will do exactly that. Any parent who wants their kids to be part of walk-pooling (regardless of whether they can lead any walks or not) should complete this online form.

https://docs.google.com/forms/d/e/1FAIpQLSfu6_TYY61hj355V95CRMT7nx4UsfeCgNTx0iB9dCRvKBB4Gw/viewform?usp=sf_link

When you submit the form, I'll add your essential details to the map, and give you access to the whole map. Then you'll see who is around you (or on your route to school), when they might be able to walk with your kids, and when you might be able to walk with theirs. Then just make your own arrangements and away you go! Even if you drive your kids to someone's house and the kids walk from there, that is still a win.

My hope is that lots of families will connect with each other, our kids will get more exercise, have more fun and we'll all benefit from a stronger feeling of community. So please get on board and let's make good things happen!
