Science around the School - Preps get Sticky

Prep classes have been welcoming some visitors into their classes over the last fortnight in the form of Stick Insects. Budding Scientists in delighted in the chance to get up close and personal with some camouflaged campadres. Students learnt about how they move, their life cycle and how to care for these creatures.

A big thank you to Artemisia Kousis, a very thoughtful parent who donated these young Stick Insects to our school. Thank you also to the Prep Class Teachers and Support Teachers for incorporating this into their learning programs this term.

Full STEAM Ahead

The Year 1 cohort engaged in a series of individual grade incursions with a focus on Science and Design to complement their Integrated Unit of Inquiry on Toys. The students were led through the design process and guided in redesigning and adapting their toy cars to achieve the best outcomes when in action. It provided an exciting and inspiring springboard for each student to look at the design of their own toy for their Rich Assessment Task to follow.

Thank you

Thank you to one of the scientists in our parent community, Georgina McKay, for her generous donation in the form of glass slides and coverslips.

Thank you also to Dr. Michael Christie for his donation of glass slides and slide mounting media.Your generous donations of laboratory consumables helped the elective students apply skills they had learned in producing microscopic slides of onion skin samples. We went on to stain and observe them under a microscope. It was delightful to witness the young scientists manoeuvre their way around the laboratory, more independently with increasing confidence.
