PDHPE - Aquatics Term 4
This term, Year 7 and 8 are training in their surf survival award. All students have been busy swimming at the pool and visiting the beach where they learn essential surf navigation skills. The program is a comprehensive way to develop essential surf and lifesaving skills in the water. This is due to the variation in surf conditions from one week to the next, due to tides, wave variations and sandbank/rip structures that change daily. The program is tailored to suit students at LIHS and focused on the following outcomes:
- Rip identification and survival by demonstration
- Still water assessment and basic survival skills
- Paddling a foam surfboard and catching waves
- Surf negotiation and body surfing
- Rip escape on foam surfboards
- Board starts and paddling through waves
- Group relays and team building
- Board rescues
- Surfing skills such as sitting up, pivoting and manoeuvring boards
- Surf survival awards
Lake Illawarra High School’s Donation Drive
Year 9 girls involved in the ‘HEaRd’ program are running a donation drive at LIHS. We will be running the drive from Monday the 28th of October, through to Friday the 29th of November. This five week event will collect goods to donate to SAHSSI, Supported Accommodation & Homelessness Services Shoalhaven Illawarra. This is a local charity organisation which makes a big difference in our community.
There will be a donation bin located near the LIHS front office for any students, staff, or community members who have any of the following items at home which they would like to donate. You may have these items lying around or not in use, which we will donate to SAHSSI to be used in housing accommodation and helping the lives of others.
