Principal's Message

The Lake Learning Community (which includes Lake South PS, Mt. Warrigal PS, Primbee PS, Warilla North PS, Windang PS and Lake Illawarra HS) have spent this year working together planning a whole range of different initiatives which we are confident are going to make the learning outcomes of our students even more positive.

Together, the schools that make up our Lake Learning Community have a partnership that ensures that students' and their wellbeing is the focus of everything that we do. As a Learning Community we are committed to collaboratively working together to ensure the following;

*Facilitating the continuity of education from Kindergarten to Year 12

*Mobilising the knowledge, expertise and resources of all six schools to enable and enhance strategies that work

*Building and sustaining a strong sense of community amongst the six schools

*Sharing accountability and creating opportunities for our students

*Building teacher efficacy in achieving this vision.

Already this year, we as a Learning Community have held joint professional learning, supported each other with resources, engaged high school students in supporting primary students in varying capacities, participated in whole community activities and of course are currently having a great time supporting the transition of our year 6 students into high school. This will culminate later this term with two of our feeder schools spending  2 weeks attending classes here at Lake High. Next year, we are hoping all of our year 6 students will be doing the same.

We are a very proud group of schools that are committed to ensuring that EVERY one of our students is known, cared for and celebrated.

Deputies' Desk

Welcome to Term 4 which, as we all know, is going to be a very busy term here at Lake. As we move into the final term for 2019 we still have assessment tasks that our students need to complete, all of which will contribute towards your child’s final assessment and yearly report. These assessments, a mixture of practical and theoretical, will be issued to your child in the coming weeks and can I remind everyone that if you are unsure of what needs to be completed, please speak to the class teacher for assistance.

I would like to welcome  readers from our local primary schools who are now receiving our newsletter. We have a very strong partnership with our primary schools where we all work together to support our students as they move through 13 years of schooling. As we all know, education is not just at a school, it’s over our community of schools, our parents, caregivers and community.

Can I also remind our primary school parents, that the nominations for Lake Illawarra High Schools Year 7 EXCEL (Expanded Curriculum for Enriched Learning) class are now open. We sent the application forms out to all our primary schools, but, if you did not receive one, we have also uploaded onto our website. Please go to https://lakeillawa-h.schools.nsw.gov.au/learning-at-our-school/year-7-2020-excel-class.html to download a copy, or you can contact myself, Tim Wilson to ask any questions regarding this.

Term 4 also brings that environmental change of beautiful warm weather and sometimes hot weather. It is important that every child practices sun safety. Sun cream should be applied before students arrive to school and particularly before your child completes outdoor lessons such as, PE, Marine studies or Agriculture. On this note, can I remind everyone about our school uniform policy, football shorts are not part of our school uniform and should not be worn at school.

As we move into term 4, I would like all our students to make an extra effort to arrive at school on time. I know term 4 is an exciting time but it is also important to maintain positive habits and continue to do the right thing. If you have a look at the table below, you can see how much time is lost or lateness.

I would like to wish a farewell to our Year 12 students who will be sitting their final HSC exams next week. All of your staff are very proud of your efforts and are looking forward to hearing from you when you get your results in December

Lastly, I would like to pass on our congratulations to Jarrod Dyer who last term received a gold medal competing for Australia at the INS World games. Jared was a member of the winning relay team and has now earn't a place in the history books! Well done Jarrod!

As always, if you have any questions, please contact myself or Mr Meizer.
