HASS

In Term 3 we will have a focus on students’ personal and family histories. We will inquire into the question of “What is my history and how do I know it? Students will gain an insight into their own personal history and learn some significant events in their short lives. This will be achieved through students interviewing their family members. We will learn about what makes a good question and students will create a number of questions to ask their Grandparent/s (or another significant family member) about a special time in their life.

 

To complete the topic and to showcase our learning we will hold a Grandparents Day on Friday 18th September (Week 9). We will give more information closer to the date however, please mark the date in your calendars.

 

In Term 4 our inquiry focus will be around the questions "What Makes a Place Special?" and "How Can We Look After The Places We Live In?" The key concept is that of Space v Place.

We will be going on an excursion within the local community, however we will give more information on this in term 4.

IT - Learning Technologies

The students in LA6/7/8 continue to access the iPads and netbooks to support their learning journey. Children use these learning tools to develop their skill knowledge and creativity. IT continues to support the children in all areas of learning with a key focus on oral language, literacy and numeracy.

This term the children will be introduced to the application Book Creator which will enhance their book making skills. Book Creator will continue to develop your child’s literacy and oral language skills in a fun and creative way. Book making will be taking one step further; after we draw the story, tell the story and write the story the children will now record their stories using iPads. If your child has access to an iPad at home please consider downloading this app to further support their learning at school. The LetterSchool app continues to be used in class, supporting children’s letter, sound and numeral recognition and formation.
