Spanish Report

Spanish Day

Hola, amigos!

On September the 10th of September, we will be celebrating Spanish Day once again! It is an exciting event for our school where we celebrate our 6th year of learning Spanish at Lyndhurst by learning about the different cultures of some Spanish speaking countries and recognise the importance of learning an additional language.

This year, our Spanish Day will be organised by a committee of grade 5 and 6 students who have been working hard to create craft, sport and trivia activities for our school to enjoy on the day as well as decorations for the gym and an educational video on the importance of learning a language at school.

We will also be visited by Carrum Downs Secondary College Spanish students who have been organising activities to teach our senior students on the day. It will be a great networking opportunity for senior students interested in furthering their Spanish learning at secondary school.

Students will be encouraged to wear the colours of the flag of the country their year level will represent on the day OR a costume representing that country. These will be:

Prep – Mexico: green, white and red

Grade 1 – Spain: red and yellow

Grade 2 – Cuba: blue, white and red

Grade 3 – Chile: blue, white and red

Grade 4 – Colombia: yellow, blue and red

Grade 5 – Argentina: light blue, white and yellow

Grade 6 – El Salvador: blue and white

There will be a morning parade in the gym followed by our Prep, grade 1 and grade 2 students performing cultural dances for family and friends. Please come along!

I highly encourage parents and community members to come and chat to me if you’re interested in doing any activities on the day. This may include sharing experiences and pictures of travelling to Spanish speaking countries or even coming to talk about how knowing an additional language has benefited you.

We had one of the biggest parent turnouts at our last Spanish Day parade so I look forward to seeing you all there!
