Year 11 Geography and Environmental Science students at Loch Ard Gorge

Humanities Trips and Excursions

It has been a busy term in the Humanities Faculty, with several overnight camps, fieldwork days and competitions entered.

Land Use was studied on the Year 12 Geography Camp along the Bass Coast. Students enjoyed visiting the State Coal Mine as well as the Historical Society in central Wonthaggi. Last week, the Year 11 Geography and Environmental classes ventured along the Great Ocean Road and into the Otways to investigate the natural hazards and bushfires.

All Year 10 Issues Studies students spent last Monday at Docklands working in small groups to determine whether the Docklands was a successful or unsuccessful development. They collected both primary and secondary data as evidence to their stance on the issue. The students were lucky enough to start and end the day inside Etihad Stadium, which was something that doesn’t happen on most normal excursions. From all accounts, students  thoroughly enjoyed the day.

Entries have opened for the Simpson Prize 2018 and the National History Challenge. Further details can be found on Compass.  Lastly, 57 students have entered the Australian Geography Competition, which is to be held early Term Two.
