YEAR 12 CAPTAINS

Term 2 is well and truly under way, with SAC preparations gearing up.

Over the last few months everyone has had a MIPS interview with Careers to discuss future options. We are sure this has given everyone something to think about.

The second order of VCE Jumpers is also set to arrive in the next week.  Soon the entire cohort will be warm and prepared for the upcoming winter months.

YEAR 11 CAPTAINS

Last Friday 24 April, the Year 11 students participated in a Study Skills program, with the guidance of the enthusiastic university students from Elevate Education.  We learnt invaluable study skills, which we can apply to the rest of our studies here at Lilydale High to ensure we are doing the best we can!

We all enjoyed the hotdog and soft drinks afterwards, to finish off a great day. We look forward to applying our newly learnt skills.

HUMANITIES

On Thursday 23 April, Lilydale High School students attended the annual Legacy Day held at Melbourne's Shrine of Remembrance.

Being the centenary of the Gallipoli landings made this year's events deeply touching and memorable for the students who got to listen to talks from the RSL President as well as the Governor of Victoria.

As well as this, students were able to hear from a Legacy Award winning student who shared an emotional story about her family's involvement in Gallipoli.

As Humanities Captains, we were privileged to lay the wreath at the eternal flame.  As always, students from Junior, Middle and Senior school who attended the event made both the Humanities faculty and the school proud.

PERFORMING ARTS

With so many things happening in the Performing Arts section of the school, both students and teachers have been tirelessly working to achieve the best outcome.

Grade 6 night - Numerous students have been invited to be part of the display, whether it be performing for the crowds, or simply providing background music as the tours wander through the bustling corridors.

Arts camp is fast approaching, providing many students the opportunity to focus solely on their Arts subject for 3 days, with many working on group performances and fine-tuning their artistic skills.

Music workshops will be held in June for all Band Ensembles.

VISUAL ARTS

In the Arts department we are still on going with the recycled flowers project.  It's starting to really take shape and colour, the students have really enjoyed working on this project and can't wait to get it finished.

We'd like to invite all parents/guardians to our Information Evening next Tuesday May 5 to explore what our Art department has to offer and check out the amazing pieces our students have created. Hope to see you there!.

SCIENCE

This week in Science, Year 9 students participated in a Forensics incursion to investigate a mysterious crime!  Engaging in a range of problem solving activities, our Science students explored the real life applications of Science as part of their course assessment for the term.

Akin to this, students were informed about the dangers of cyber bullying and drink spikes.  It's truly an underlying educational program disguised by a mask of fun.
