Primary Science Program

Over the past eight weeks, Shepparton East and Bourchier Street Primary schools, Grade 6 students, have been attending the Primary Science Program. They have marvelled at the wonders of science and have enjoyed studying the concepts of the States of Matter – Solids, Liquids and Gases
They have had fun demonstrating the states of matter as role play, whereby they had to arrange themselves as the particles of solids, liquids and gases; they performed experiments to identify the different states, they looked into reversible,
irreversible, physical and chemical changes and enhanced their scientific vocabulary along the way.
The students particularly, enjoyed making a saturated Alum solution which they used to make Egg Geodes and they used USB microscopes to observe the crystal formation. This hands on experience, allowed the students to participate in real science experimentation and become familiar with writing up answers to scientific questions.
This area of study culminated in the observation of the properties of Liquid Nitrogen and the making of Liquid Nitrogen ice cream which they marvelled at and enjoyed immensely.
Bourchier Street and Grahamvale Grade 6 students will attend next term to study Physical Science.
