Year 11 Foundation English

The Outsiders

Year 11 Foundation English have just completed their first novel ‘The Outsider’ by S.E Hinton. 

Students have completed chapter summaries and are soon to commence a series of questions regarding the themes and characters such as ‘Which character do you most relate to and why?’.  

The Outsiders is a coming-of-age novel, first published in 1967 by Viking Press. The author, Hinton, was fifteen when she started writing the novel, but did most of the work when she was sixteen and a junior in high school. Hinton was 18years old when the book was published.

The book follows two rival groups, the Greasers and the Socs, who are divided by their socioeconomic status. The story is told in first-person narrative by protagonist Ponyboy Curtis.

The students are pictured above getting into the theme on out of uniform day.
