IMAX Theatre & Melbourne Museum Excursion (Year 2)

As part of their Unit of Inquiry on 'Sharing the Planet, today the Year 2 students visited IMAX and the Melbourne Museum. The purpose of the excursion was to develop an understanding of how 'Living things go through a process of change'. Students enjoyed a lesson on 'Bugs' and explored various living things using magnifying glasses. They also explored the 'Bugs Alive' exhibition and watched a ‘Flight of the Butterflies” 3D movie.

Body Investigators Incursion (Year 4)

On Tuesday (24 July), the Year 4 students participated in an interactive drama workshop, ’The Body Investigators’, where they investigated an unhealthy body. As ‘Full Body Investigators’ they became brain neurons, red & white blood cells, oxygen and gastric juices and role played different body systems. They also explored how diet, physical activity and sleep impact on our body’s performance.

Below are some reports on the incursion from the Year 4 students - the challenge was to include some of their weekly spelling words!

On Tuesday the 24th of July we had an FBI incursion (Full Body Incursion). Mr. Andrews featured in our incursion as Bazza. We had to nurture Bazza (Mr. Andrews) back to being healthy. The incursion was very engaging and we were adventurous in learning all about how the human body is structured as it affects our everyday lives.. Zoe F (4A)

On the 24th of July the FBI (which stands for the full body inspectors) came in and talked to us about the body. The talk featured Bazza, who was our teacher Mr. Andrews. It was a very adventurous experience. We learnt how to nurture our body. We leisurely got to choose which area of the body we wanted be in, these included the heart, lungs, digestive system and the brain. At the end we took a picture. It was a very pleasurable experience and we learnt a lot. Sienna N (4A)

On Tuesday the 24th of July, Year four had FBI (Full Body Inspectors) come in to talk to us about the body, our host was Gavin. It featured Bazza (our teacher Mr. Andrews) and we had to figure out what was wrong with his body. We were very adventurous because we had to dress up as neurons, oxygen, red blood cells, white blood cells or stomach muscles. Then we had to act out what it’s job is in the body. We all had a great time and we learnt a lot. Mila W (4A)

On Tuesday 24th of July 2018 all of Yr. 4 experienced a man called Gavin come talk to us about the Human Body. He explained to us 6 parts we need to survive: the white blood cells, red blood cells, gastric juices, oxygen and the neurons. A fact I learnt about neurons is they send about 200 messages to the brain per second and there’s about 100 million neurons in the brain. Gavin dressed up as a Doctor and we turned into doctors too. We had a patient called Bazza {Mr. Andrews} who had been feasting on unhealthy food. Gavin gave us all shrinking potion and we took a look inside Bazza’s body. Bazza’s body was sick and tired of Bazza eating junk all the time. We looked at all enclosures of Bazza’s Body and fixed them. When our time was up we all exited Bazza’s body and ended our session. It was a huge pleasure spending an hour with Gavin and we hope to do it again! Dylan C (4A)

On one sunny Tuesday we had our F.B.I incursion. Gavin our instructor told us about what we should eat and drink healthy, he also told us about different body parts. Gavin turned us into doctors so we could inspect Bazza’s body features (Mr. Andrews). We inspected Bazza’s body because he has been eating too much junk food and staying up late all night playing video games and watching TV all night. Gavin had this spray which turned us into small people to get through his nose. We dressed up as body parts such as the brain, neurons, oxygen, heart, white blood cells and stomach muscles. When it was time for the white blood cell to do its job Mila, Pippie and I, we had to try catch the germ but we were too tired of Bazza’s diet - we exited through Bazza’s bottom. We had so much fun!! Daisy W (4A)

On Tuesday the 24/7/18, we had a full body inspectors incursion because we are focusing on The Living Machine for our unit of inquiry. It was really fun and disgusting because we went in Bazza’s body (which was Mr Andrews). He had something wrong with him because he only ate junk food, chocolate, sweets and Pepsi. So we had to go up his nose but first we have to get shrunk, so we can fit up the nose and then we got our special uniform then we went up and we saw disgusting things like boogers. Then we went to the brain, lungs, blood cells, and the digestive system. It was an adventurous ride and then had to go out the bottom - it was unpleasant. It was fun because we got to dress up as blood cells, white cells, oxygen, brain and the digestive system. We learned a lot. Jessica W (4A)

On Tuesday we had the FBI incursion, and Bazza (Mr Andrews) came in aching, clenching his tummy saying ‘’I don’t fell well’’. This was because he was drinking coke and staying up too late playing video games. He was eating nothing but donuts and ice-cream which was making his body sick as well. We learnt that neurons send 200 messages per second, and blood cells carry around the oxygen and sometimes the oxygen can be stubborn if we don’t exercise, making it harder for the blood. Luc F (4A)

On Tuesday the 24th  of July we did the FBI incursion (FBI stands for full body inspectors). Mr Andrews was featured as Bazza who eats lots of junk food so we pretended to go inside Bazzas body. First we went through Bazzas nose, it looked disgusting  it wasn’t very pleasurable but of course it wasn’t a real nose. After we went through the nose we saw we saw all these body parts there were neurons, oxygen, the heart, white blood cells and the intestine. I was the heart, I really loved being it! After we did all of the dressing up I loved the hearts costume, we had to nurture Bazzas body and that’s exactly what we did. Next to get out of Bazzas body we went out the bottom!!! Then the incursion ended I'm so happy we got to nurture Bazzas body!! Lucia D (4A)

'Bold as Brass' Music Incursion (Year 3 & 4)

Yesterday (25 July) the Year 3 and 4 students enjoyed a 'Bold as Brass' music incursion to integrate with the music classroom topic of tone colour/instrument families. Students were highly engaged by a group of outstanding professional musicians who made learning about brass instruments a very fun experience. Enjoy the photos and videos below!

On Wednesday, four people from the Shrewd Brass Team, Rosie on French horn, Crusty and Lara both on trumpet, Adam who featured the tuber and Tom on trombone came to Years 3 to 4 for a very musical incursion. The group started off with a song called Joshua fit the battle of Jericho, a bright and bouncy tune that everyone stated to dance to. Next was a science experiment where the children learnt that you can make your own brass instrument with an old hose, a funnel and a mouth piece also that the longer the hose the lower the sound. One of the most exiting parts was when the group played songs from movies including Star Wars, Harry Potter, The Titanic, Jurassic Park, Superman etc. To finish off such a treasure of a time, the group played tica tica, it was so entertaining. Thank you so much to the Shrewd Brass Team for coming to BNPS.  Pippie L (4A)
