Veritas – From the APRIM

Veritas – From the APRIM

This week we celebrated the Feast of the Presentation of the Bl Virgin Mary. The feast has its origins in the Eastern Church, dating back to the 6th century.

Essentially, it recalls Mary’s presentation in the temple at three months. As a new father who presented Amelia at three months (baptism!) it makes a lot more sense to me now.

Our own baptismal call is something for us to reflect on. What do you think your parents hoped for your life at your Baptism? Who are you called to be?

We pray, through the intercession of Mary, that God may affirm us in who we are and in what we do.

Community Mass and Carols

Blackfriars will be celebrating the Christmas season and giving thanks for 2017 through a Community Mass and Carols evening, on Monday 27 November at 6:30 pm. The event is for all students, parents, friends and staff of Blackfriars Priory School. We understand that all families are exceptionally busy; however, we would hope that this celebration is a priority for our community. The expectation for the evening is that every student and their family would be present.

The evening commences with a Mass of thanksgiving at 6:30 pm followed by carols performed by our talented music students. Both the Mass and carols will be held on the front lawns of Blackfriars Priory School. You are welcome to bring food, refreshments and a blanket, as you sit on the front lawn and enjoy the carols.  We ask that during Mass, all food and drink is stored away until the carols begin. Student dress code is school uniform. A sausage sizzle and drinks will also be available during the carols with money raised going to the Vinnies Christmas Appeal.

Upcoming Reflection Days

  • The Year 8 Reflection Day will be held at Hallett Cove Conservation Park, commencing at the Hallett Cove Civic Centre on Monday 4 December. We will begin in the Civic Centre as a cohort and set the scene for the reflection day as a man of balance (Four Pillars). Later in the day we will move as small groups to Hallett Cove Conservation Park where there will be opportunities for continued group work, reflection and discussion.
  • The Year 9 Reflection Day will be held at Woodhouse (Scout Centre) on Tuesday 5 December. Woodhouse has a variety of challenging activities which we will incorporate into male spirituality and a sense of something greater. The day will look at becoming a man of substance and connect with Catholic male rites of passage.

God Bless.
