From the Deputy Principal ELC-12

Year 11 students sitting their final examinations this week

From the Deputy Principal ELC-12

As we near the season of Advent and Christmas, it is a timely reminder to live our lives filled with love, compassion and hope for God’s people and God’s creation. We are all part of a universal church and peace in the world is dependent on universal action. The Church is the primary source of God’s design to bring all humanity to the light and truth. May this advent season be one of prayer and reflection to nurture the life within us so that we are the light that shines out in the darkness.

The light of our community has been witnessed through the many events this term. We have had an incredible month that has seen a number of celebratory events that have brought the school together to recognise the incredible efforts of staff, students and families. Thank you to everyone who has made this year memorable and such a success.

Examinations

Congratulations to the Year 12 Students who have completed their examinations. We look forward to celebrating this momentous occasion at the Year 12 Graduation Dinner on Friday 1 December 2017.

Our thoughts and prayers are currently with our Year 10 and Year 11 students as they complete their final examinations and prepare for Year 12 in 2017.

We understand that Year 12 students are relieved to finish their end of year exams and are looking forward to a well-earned break. This is the busiest time of year in the library and we would appreciate it if the Year 12s could return their textbooks as soon as possible.

Year 12 2018 Orientation Program

On Tuesday 28 November 2017, the school has organised a compulsory Year 12 2018 Orientation Program for our current Year 11 students and follows the final exam for Year 11 students.

The purpose of this orientation day is to provide teachers and students with an opportunity to discuss the course outline and study options for the important year ahead.

All students are required to attend their normal Home Group at 8.40am to register their attendance. At 8.45am they are to go to the Senior Library where there will be a presentation regarding SACE Expectations and Procedures. Following this, there will be a lesson session for each of the subjects that are offered in Year 12 next year. Students will only attend the information sessions for subjects that they are enrolled in.

Students will be given the following information at these sessions:

  • The Stage 2 Subject Outline
  • A summary of the Assessment Tasks that can be expected in 2018
  • A Booklet outlining School and SACE Board of SA Policies and Procedures
  • Suggested holiday reading that can prepare students for beginning of the year
  • A copy of the 2017 Examination (if applicable)
  • Year 12 Booklist
  • Resources may be distributed
  • Tips for success.

I am confident that these sessions will provide students with an excellent introduction to their Year 12 Subjects. It will allow the boys to commence their studies with confidence in January 2018 and provide motivation for students to organise themselves during the holiday period.

It is an expectation that all students enrolled in Stage 2 Subjects attend the information sessions. If for some reason they are unable to attend the orientation day they need to contact the school advising Mrs Daniela Piteo of their intended absence.

A letter and program for the day was distributed to Students in Week 5 Term 4, Friday 17 November 2017.
