Sydenham Campus Principal Message

A warm welcome back to all of our families for the start of Term 2.

Parent/Student/Teacher Interviews and Interim Reports

Thank you to all parent/carers who were able to attend our Parent/Student/Teacher Interviews which took place on Thursday April 4 just before the end of term 1. We always welcome the opportunity to work with families to support the learning and wellbeing of our students and were excited to see so many of you on the day. A reminder that Term 1 Interim Reports for students are available via the Compass Portal. If you have not done so please review your child’s progress. Please note that are implementing a new Reporting System through Compass this year – if there are any issues please let us know.

Robotics Teams – World Championships

Congratulations to our two teams from Copperfield College who competed at the VEX Robotics World Championships in Louisville, Kentucky in late April. Both teams competed strongly and really enjoyed this marvellous experience. Thank you to the College community who all got behind this adventure, and we are pleased they all returned safe and sound albeit a little late! We are looking forward to the next instalment of the endeavours of these students who have come so far in a small number of years. Thank you particularly to Ms Altas, Mr Horn and Mr Stirkul who guided these students so skilfully through this experience.

College Athletics Carnival

Late last term on March 29 the College Athletics Carnival was held at the Keilor Athletics field. Congratulations to all students who attended and competed strongly, particularly to L and T Teams from KP who wrestled the crown of the past few years from E and B Teams from Sydenham.

NAPLAN Online

From May 14 until May 24 all Year 7 and 9 students will undertake NAPLAN testing, through the use of online tests for the first time. NAPLAN assesses students in reading, writing, spelling, grammar and punctuation and numeracy skills. The results are used by teachers to further inform instruction. Results will be made available to parents later in Term 3.

Fuji Junior High School – Hosting Opportunity

Fifteen students and three teachers will be travelling to Australia and Copperfield College for 6 days, staying overnight in a homestay arrangement for 5 nights from Thursday August 15 to Tuesday August 20. During this time each Japanese student stays in an Australian home with one of our students, attending classes at Copperfield College and experiencing life in Australia. It is also a wonderful experience for our students and their families to welcome a Japanese student into their home and treat them as family members. Copperfield College students have made many friends with students and their families from our Sister School, developing a better understanding and appreciation of lifestyles and cultures. If you would like to host a Japanese student between Thursday August 15 and Tuesday August 20, please fill in the EOI available from your campus office and return it with a parent/carer signature to your Campus Office asap.

Lastly, welcome to Mr Lance Petherick who has been appointed as Campus Principal at Sydenham. He replaces Mr Phil Coloca who has taken up a position in the Regional Team working on Statewide Literacy Initiatives. We all thank Phil for his work and wish him well!
