ASSISTANT PRINCIPALS' REPORT

Attitudes to School Survey
Doncaster Secondary College is conducting a survey to find out what your child thinks of our school. The Attitudes to School Survey is offered by the Department of Education and Training to assist schools in gaining an understanding of students' perceptions and experience of school. Our school will use the survey results to plan programs and activities to improve your child's schooling experience.
This year the Attitudes to School survey will be conducted between 18th May to 1st June. The survey only takes 20-30 minutes to complete and will occur during Discovery classes. The survey is not a test and your child has the right to refuse or withdraw from the survey. This year students will complete the survey online. It is therefore important that all students bring their own device to Discovery in order to complete the survey.
Students will be provided with a unique login to complete the survey which means that their responses will be private and confidential.
The survey results will be reported back to the school in term 3 and communicated to our College community through annual reporting. In 2019, Mr Morgan Gardiner has taken on the role as Student Voice and Agency leader and uses this information to improve student engagement and wellbeing.
Please contact the relevant Sub-School if you would like more information or visit:http://www.education.vic.gov.au/school/teachers/management/improvement/Pages/performsurveyat.aspx
Student Support Required
Some of our families are finding it difficult to acquire some of the items required for school. This concern was raised at our previous DSC Wellbeing Action team meeting where the suggestion was made to seek the support of our College community.
In an effort to build up our resources to support all of our students, our College Librarian, Ms Susan Hayward, is putting together a collection of second hand books. As a result, a number of students have supported their peers by bringing in their textbooks from previous years. If you have books from previous years which are still current, we would welcome these.
Also, if families have recently upgraded their electronic devices and have devices at home which could be used to support our students, we would greatly appreciate your assistance. The General Office will be able to receive donations of these items or alternatively if you would like to ask any questions, please contact me on morris.glenn.c@edumail.vic.gov.au .
Positive Climate for Learning
On Tuesday evening, Luisa Allen and Jack Trewella met with parents, students and teachers who have formed a working party to review and plan our whole school approach to preventing and responding to bullying. The group defined bullying, shared experiences and discussed ways for students to report their concerns. The working party will continue to meet and provide recommendations on how our curriculum can be used to build social and emotional skills and educate students about how to seek support. The work will also inform the development of our school policy, advice for parents, and processes used by the student management and wellbeing team to respond to incidents of bullying.
Thank you to all of the parents, students and teachers involved for the work you are doing to enhance the safety and wellbeing of our students.
