GENERAL NEWS

SCHOOL UNIFORM CHANGE OVER
Due to the unseasonable weather we have decided to permit our students to wear either full summer uniform or full winter uniform. This is totally optional but we ask that both uniforms be worn neat and tidy until the end of the term. Our official changeover is Week 1, Term 4.
UNIFORM - IT MATTERS
Here at St Nicholas we have high expectations and one particular area we expect students to show this is in the way they present each day in their school uniform.
We ask parents to support us in the following:
**No coloured scrunchies or hair accessories - The only colour to be worn is green please.
**No other earrings apart from simple studs or sleeper. Save other decorative earrings for the weekends and holidays.
**No excessive jewellery - only a watch is to be worn. Other jewellery can be worn on weekends.
ST NICHOLAS SCHOOL BAND
Our band is growing in numbers and we are very excited about the progress we are making under the guidance of Mrs Creigh. As such, we are beginning to look for instruments. Thank you to those who have kindly donated instruments no longer played at home. If your family has any unused musical instruments at home which are in good order, we would love to give them to a new home!

MAJOR WORKS IN PROGRESS
Parents and carers please be aware that as of Monday 26th August (and up until completion), major work will be carried out as we look to lay artificial turf out the front of the school.
This area will be fenced off and the only access into the school will be the path leading straight to the front office door and the path leading to the main gate.
There will also be equipment working in the area between the Auditorium and the Kinder rooms as we prepare for artificial turf in a few spaces.
Please do not use the black gate in this area for any reason.
Finally, due to the popularity of the current sandpit, a new sandpit will be dug down on the oval between the current sandpit and the Infant equipment. We are always looking at ways to improve our school facilities for our students and we are confident these works will be widely appreciated. Parents can support this by reminding your children to have gratitude and respect for all the fabulous facilities they have to play.
HELP KEEP OUR KIDS SAFE ONLINE!
Centacare NENW will be hosting a free two hour eSafety workshop in Tamworth on Monday the 9th of September for parents and carers. Presented by a representative from the Office of the eSafety Commissioner this workshop will provide information about online safeguards, cyberbullying, image based abuse and being a responsible digital citizen.
To register your attendance contact Centacare NENW on 6762 9200.
LOST PROPERY
We have the following items in the office. If you recognise any of the items, please contact the office to claim.
MOBILE PHONES AND STUDENTS
Here at St Nicholas School, students are not permitted to use mobile phones whilst in our care. However we do appreciate that some students have phones to make communication with parents easier especially after school hours. Our policy is that all students with phones, ipods or other electronic devices must hand these in at the office to Mrs Grady at the start of each day and collect them at the end of the day. If phones are used inappropriately by any student they will not be permitted to bring it to school.
SUPERVISION OF STUDENTS
All parents need to be aware our supervision of students does not begin until 8.15am each day. We are becoming increasingly concerned that children are being dropped off and left on their own, unsupervised by parents before this time - often up to half an hour earlier. This is not a safe or acceptable practice. Currently students are expected to come in and sit in the Holy Family Courtyard unsupervised and wait. We cannot be responsible for any accident or potentially harmful incidents occurring. Please organise alternative care for your child if your child requires supervision before 8.15am.
