JE ME PRÉSENTE – MADAME LYND – ONE OF THE TWO NEW FRENCH TEACHERS AT MCKINNON
I would like to introduce myself to the school and give a little of background. I started my teaching career in Tasmania after studying French at the University of Tasmania. After teaching there for a few years, I studied a Diploma in Teaching French as a Foreign Language at the Université Paul Valéry, Montpellier III.
The next few years of my life involved some detours – I taught English to adults in Prague for five years and I worked as the Native English Speaking teacher in a Hong Kong secondary school for eight years. I have been head of languages and more recently of English and EAL in a Melbourne secondary school for the past few years, and I am now very excited to have joined the McKinnon family, where I am teaching Years 7, 8, 9 and 11 French. I have wonderful classes, and I am loving being part of a big and dynamic languages team.

LEARNING A SECOND LANGUAGE: HOW PARENTS CAN HELP
Please support your child in learning another language! Research confirms that parents' attitudes towards language-learning have a significant impact on the child's success.
Another language is a lasting asset (and this need not involve near-native fluency) in an increasingly demanding global world whilst many other skills undergo constant change. Languages not only enhance communication skills but also develop flexibility, creativity and higher-order thinking. Language-learning can also result in health and social benefits. The emperor Charlemagne said more than a thousand years ago: "To have another language is to possess a second soul." (Charlemagne was emperor of most of western and central Europe in the 700s-800s. He promoted literacy at a time when it wasn't a priority for many leaders.)
The following article will give you a few tips on how to support your child!
