SWIMMING CARNIVAL

On Wednesday 19 February, the weather was not as kind to us as it had been the last few consecutive years. Despite the heavy downpours the annual McKinnon Swimming Carnival continued. McKinnon students and staff were still eager and ready for a jam-packed day of participation, fun and good times.

Despite the freezing, wet weather the water was warm. Kicking off the swimming races, diving and house relays. At the beginning of the day, all the houses were grinding for top positions, rallying all house members to gain those important house points. There were also the elite novelty events including volleyball (in the wet sand), table tennis and water polo.

A highlight of the cloudy day was MANKINNON, a tribal event in which staff members and the Year 12 cohort have a dance off. The Year 12s had it tough pulling out all their moves whilst getting drenched in the pouring rain, however we pulled through and thrived in the weather. Although countless hours of rehearsals were put in, the teachers refined coordination and moves got the win.

As the day came towards an end, despite Monash, Gilmore and Flynn’s efforts, it just wasn’t enough. Chisholm was too strong and could not be taken down. Special mentions to Will Sharp (Year 12) who broke two school records. Monique Andjelic (Year 10) who scored the most points for Chisholm house and Sophie Roberts (Year 12) for smashing some records.

We would like to say a massive thank you to all the staff and students who helped out and participated whilst enduring the bad weather.

KINGSTON DIVISION LAWN BOWLS

On Monday 24 February, McKinnon entered four teams into the Kingston Division Lawn Bowls competition.

The Year 10 Boys: Andre Sa Pires Nyborg, Billy Barton and Daniel Finnigan made up the McKinnon C team.  Although they finished 2nd in Pool A to the McKinnon A team they defeated Brighton A in the Semi Final 14-0 to advance to the Grand Final.

They met McKinnon B team in the Grand Final to play off for the Pennant. In a thrilling game that went down to the wire, they were victorious!

Congratulations to the boys who now advance to the Southern Metropolitan Final on Friday 27 March at Hampton Bowls Club.
