Changes for 2023

Principal's report continued...

Major Works over the holidays

You will have noticed some physical changes to our school over the summer break.  We have been working hard on a pretty major upgrade to our facilities.  The inside and outside of our main building has been fully painted and re-carpeted, we had some major plumbing works completed in the BER to upgrade our toilets and work has begun on re-landscaping some of our garden areas.

We also have a quick walk through video... (hope it doesn't make you to dizzy)

But... the best way to see the great changes to our school is to come and visit!

Our Art room and a section of our Library have been out of action since we suffered damage following the flooding rains in October last year.  We are pleased to report that significant repairs have been undertaken and we are close to finalising these works and having the Art room back in action.

I would like to thank the many teams who have made this possible, and for our incredible staff and students who have shown terrific resilience as we have packed up, moved, unpacked and reset our learning environments over the past couple of months.  The school is looking fantastic and we are looking forward to having some great learning experiences in our wonderful spaces.

Great things ahead in 2023

We have some great plans for 2023.  More information will come over the year, but I am pleased to be able to inform you that we are doing significant work this year to continue to provide an excellent academic program for our students here at KPS.

Assessment and RTI

This year, our assessment program has been extended to include universal screening for all students in Literacy.  This will assist us to more accurately identify student learning needs and target our intervention and extension programs to better meet these needs.  These assessments are part of our implementation of a "response to intervention" (RTI) approach across the school.  Based on extensive research, this approach works within a Multi-Tiered System of Support to ensure all students receive exactly what they need to succeed in their learning.

Continuous Reporting

Once again this year we will be reporting your child's progress and achievement continuously throughout the year via Sentral.  We are improving our communication in this area, providing parents with photographs or screenshots of student work samples when providing feedback and sharing detailed reports of Essential Assessment tasks.  If you have any questions at all about how we will be providing feedback on your child's learning this year please speak to your child's teacher.

Case Management Approach

As a part of our Professional Learning program, we will be further refining our Case Management Approach this year.  This approach involves teachers presenting key data on a specific student within a small internal team and discussing how they can improve their practice to better serve the needs of that individual student.  Working together in this way teachers and ES staff deepen their understanding of our students, improve their practice and monitor their impact on student learning outcomes.

And so much more... stay tuned...
