SPX Winter Appeal - Supporting St Vincent de Paul and Jesuit Refugee Services

Thank you to everyone who has brought in items for our Winter Appeal.  We are collecting goods for St Vincent de Paul, Brookvale and Jesuit Refugee Services, Parramatta. In this difficult time, those in need have found themselves pushed further into the fringes of society, with many volunteer organisations not able to cater for those who are less fortunate. Students are encourage to consider the plight of those around us, and to act by giving to the poor in handfuls.

Driven by Year 9, the appeal will run from Monday, 30 May until Thursday, 17 June (Week 8, Day 4). Year 9 Student volunteers are collecting goods during homeroom. We are in need of the following items:

Food

Toiletries

Clothing / Blankets

  • Basmati Rice
  • Cooking Oil
  • Long Life Milk
  • Tinned Tuna, Red Kidney Beans, Lentils, Chickpeas, Fruit
  • Biscuits & Muesli Bars
  • Oats & Cereals
  • Nappies (Large)
  • Toothpaste and Toothbrushes
  • Shampoo
  • Sanitary Pads
  • Razors / Shaving Foam
  • Deodorant (Male & Female)
  • Soap

Any good quality clothing (especially men’s clothing) and/or blankets in new or near-new condition.

Thank you in anticipation for your generosity.

BeConnected Program - Willougby Library

After the festivities of yesterday’s Senior School Athletics Carnival, students involved in the BeConnected Program took on a challenge of a different kind, acting as “Technology Mentors” in partnership with Willoughby Library. Running for a total of six weeks, the weekly program involves elderly members of the public bringing in their own devices, and learning “tips and tricks” from our students. This is a fantastic opportunity for the boys to engage and help out in the wider community and will no doubt contribute to the growth of mentor and mentee alike!

Chapel Mass

Thanks to Ms Coombe’s Year 9 Religious Education class for hosting our fortnightly Chapel Mass. Monday was the Feast of Mary, Mother of the Church. Fr Joey Frez, Assistant Parish Priest of Our Lady of Dolours provided for us the insight into the faith and courage of Our Lady. As Catholics we can draw closer to Mary through praying the Rosary, something that was encouraged at the Marian apparition at Fatima.
