Student Learning around KPS

Foundation

It was Bob the Fireman's last day of service, and we are so honored that he got to share it with Kalinda Primary School. We had so much fun!

Grade 1

In Grade one we have been learning all about reading and writing procedural texts. On Tuesday, we celebrated with a ‘How To Day’ and the children participated in lots of fun activities such as How to make a Pirate Hat, How to make and draw Popcorn, How to make Fairy Bread and How to make a Paper Aeroplane.

Some activities involved reading and the following instruction and some activities needed the children to create their own instructions and how-to steps. Here are some of the wonderful creations made by our Grade Ones!

Kulin Tales:

Those families who attended the Winter Solstice Festival on Tuesday night will have heard the poetry reading of BULLARTO DUMBALK (Plenty Winter) from Kulin Tales, performed by a group of our Grade 5s and 6s.

This was an exert from a picture book written by a local First Nations woman, Sally Marie. This is a beautiful book with information about the seasons of Melbourne from the perspective of the people of the Kulin Nation. Sally kindly gave us permission to perform this exert, and we are very grateful to her for sharing her work and her knowledge with us.

If you are interested in learning more about Sally Marie and her work, or if you would like to purchase your own copy of the book please visit https://danceoftheplants.org/
