Q&A

"What online resources would you recommend for a student preparing for their year in Foundation?"

  • Khan Academy Kids is a free, fun, educational app with thousands of activities and books that will inspire a lifetime of learning and discovery for children ages 2-8. While most early learning apps focus on a narrow skill, this free program contains various learning materials across math, language arts, and social-emotional learning. Children can use this app independently; however, the real power of education happens when parents share, guide and discuss these activities and books with their children. Khan Academy Kids is available for iPhone and iPadGoogle Play and Amazon Fire. A Parent guide can be found here
  • Live Webcams from around the world provide a child with an opportunity to enjoy other parts of this planet that are difficult to see. Watching people working, animals in their habitat, differing seasons and climates, nature's wonders, and epic journeys would open anyone's horizons. Children ask questions and wonder about what they are seeing.
    • Explore.org  is the largest live nature cam network on the planet. They bring nature to you, raw, unscripted, and unedited. Enjoy the natural world as it unfolds in real-time in front of our cameras. EXPLORE.org takes you to the most remote places around the globe, from the plains of Kenya, Africa, to the riverbanks of Katmai, Alaska.
    • International Space Station.  24/7 Live Views from the International Space Station, Earth is seen from cameras aboard the International Space Station. Watch the Earth captured from the International Space Station.
    • A journey around the world
    • Shibuya Scramble Crossing Live Camera in Tokoyo.
    • Jackson Hole (USA) – Amazing in the wintertime.
    • Earth Cam.
    • Shiodome Railway Tracks.
    • Winter Cab View from two of the most scenic railways in the world.

Who doesn't like a good story?

  • The Storytime Family Channel . Take time and settle down for some calming quiet time. Reading should be a nightly routine, and this channel shares the joy of reading with you. The stories are meaningful, moving and fun. Here's an example of a book for Father's Day – Daddy Fartypants.
  • Art for Kids. Follow along with this family and learn how to draw, plus other fun art lessons for kids. An excellent way for young children to learn how to follow instructions and understand directions such as up, down, left, right, bigger and smaller.
