Year 3/4 News
Welcome Back to Term 3
A big hello and welcome back to all our 3/4 community! We are so excited to enter our second semester of school and continue growing our students' minds and spirits.
We've got a busy term ahead, but one that will hopefully be filled with lots of joy for our students.
End of Term 2 Reflection
NAIDOC - Nature Bracelet
During the last week of Term 2, the students were learning to celebrate our First Nations peoples culture. One of the activities they completed was to make a 'Nature Bracelet'.
They took from the land only what they needed and focused on using materials that had already fallen to the ground. The students loved getting outside and making some beautiful creations!
PBL Presentations - At the end of Term 2, students were able to present their cultural suitcases. We were very lucky to have the Year 1/2s come upstairs to the showcase. Our students eagerly shared their cultural suitcases and answered any questions that the Year 1/2s had. Have a look at the amazing turnout!
Maths
Last week, students focused on Area in Numeracy. Students completed a task in which they became 'architects' and created their own Zoo. Students incorporated their knowledge of area into their design by creating animal exhibits of various sizes as well as a park, restaurant, restrooms and gift shops.
Students designed their Zoo on grid paper and measured the area of their enclosures by counting the number of square centimetres.
The students thoroughly enjoyed this task and here are some examples of their work!
The students will be learning about division over the next fortnight, we encourage them to continue learning their multiplication facts and related division facts at home.
Year 3: 2, 3, 5 & 10 times tables
Year 4: Up to 10 x 10 times tables
Hoop Time
On Friday 15th July, 13 students from Yr 3/4 participated in the Preston Division Hoop Time.
St Raphael's had two teams -
Girls - Kara Crnac, Milli Bettiol, Ava Galati, Stefania D'ercole, Carrera & Eliane Maugeri
Boys - Anthony Ibrahim, Leo Bettiol, Xavier Moussa, Cian Hanley, Hudson Lamanna, Max Gray & Cameron Hayes
Each team participated in five x twenty minute games.
Congratulations to the boys team who finished FIRST and the girls who finished
FOURTH in the competition!
Year 3/4 Camp Dewar
Year 3/4 camp will be on Monday 8th August - Tuesday 9th August. We will be running a short Q&A Zoom in the next week. A Skoolbag notice will be sent out with the Zoom link.
