Foundation News

Benvenuti! (Welcome back!)

Even though the weather is cold, we are all really happy to be back at school. We look forward to a busy Term 3 filled with exciting events and an abundance of learning.

This semester, we welcome back parent helpers. If you have volunteered to assist in our learning space, please review the attached timetables below. Don't forget to get in touch if for whatever reason, you are unable to help.

Learning in Foundation

Investigations

This term, our Investigation areas have been set up to reflect our Inquiry question "What Makes a Community?"  Through play and explicit teaching, the students are learning the meaning of the term 'community'. They are gaining insight into different communities and are becoming familiar with the roles of organisations and people within their local community.

We invite you to peruse through the photos to see Foundation students participating in Investigative play.

Calling Community Helpers

As part of our Inquiry topic, we would love to invite Foundation parents to come along and speak to the children about their job and the role they play in the community. We would like children to gain insight into the myriad contributions people make within their local community. If you can spare some time throughout your day and are willing to speak to the children either in person or remotely via Zoom, please email your child's teacher so a suitable time can be arranged. We look forward to finding out about you!

Handwriting

This term as part of Writing, students in Foundation have started to use lined paper. They are explicitly being taught how to write lower and uppercase letters on lined paper using correct formation including correct entry and exit strokes. In Foundation, students learn to write letters sequentially. For example, the first group of letters students will practise are the letters from the 'i' family (l, t, i, j), which feature downstrokes. Once a letter has been taught, students will be expected to write that letter correctly during their creative writing. This week, students will be taught how to write the letter 'Tt'.

Religion

This term, students will learn how they belong and are part of God’s family.  Students will find out about the church and the role of different people that serve within it. Students will identify Jesus as a leader and will engage in biblical stories that make connections to family relationships and their own life experience.

As part of this unit, we ask that all students bring a photo of their baptism/christening/ or a special occasion to school this week. Photos may be emailed to homeroom teachers.

100 Days at school

On Friday 29th of July, Foundation students will be celebrating being at school for 100 days.

This day will be a casual clothes day for Foundation students.

The children are already getting excited and are starting to think of ways as how to celebrate this milestone. Due to Covid protocols, there will be no sharing of food. Students will be required to bring their own food as per usual. We do however ask parents include a party treat in their child's lunchbox.

To cover the cost of our celebration (which will include decorations, prizes and party bags), we ask that each child brings $5 to school in a labelled envelope by Monday, 25th July.

Remember, students will need to bring their own food to school on this day.

We look forward to a fun day!

Grazie!
