Year 11 Design & Technology

This term, Year 11 Design and Technology students have been very busy creating flat-pack furniture designs.

Flat pack furniture, or ‘ready-to-assemble’, as it is also known, is becoming more and more popular in our society today due to many factors: It is packed flat, extremely space-efficient, saving money for the manufacturer and consumer by reducing shipping and storage costs, and the consumer can assemble and disassemble when necessary.

The following brief was given to the students.

Design Brief:

To demonstrate an understanding of commercial production processes, design and assemble a flat-pack piece of furniture using computer-aided design (CAD) and computer-aided manufacturing (CAM) software.

The students developed their ideas using Onshape software and then built their design from furniture-grade ply, using a computer numerical control (CNC) machine.

They all deserve praise for creating such great, unique, functional, and aesthetically pleasing designs.

We anticipate your further endeavour, the Mini Major design project in Term 3.

Well done Year 11 Design & Technology.
