Bundanon 2022

Year 11 and 12 Visual Arts students had a productive and enjoyable time on their recent Art excursion, held at the beautiful, picturesque Arthur Boyd Estate in Bundanon. The estate is about 500km from Wagga on the Shoalhaven River near Nowra.

On our arrival, the Art Education staff from Bundanon led the students in an Ink drawing workshop using materials found on the riverbank, such as paperbark, twigs, reeds and leaves. From here the students created beautiful works in the same location Arthur Boyd would have used as inspiration for many of his own artworks.

The second workshop run by the Education staff was Acrylic painting on paper capturing the incredible view of the Shoalhaven River. The focus of this workshop was mixing paint with a limited palette to capture the huge variety of colours in the sky, hills and water.

The third workshop was held on top of the hill under which a fireproof Gallery was built to house the priceless works of Arthur Boyd.  Overlooking the property as far as the eye can see, students learnt a unique method of drawing with charcoal and an eraser which they used to capture the surrounding trees and the many different textures that nature had to offer.

In between the Bundanon staff workshops the Kildare Visual Arts teachers Miss Toole, Ms Sutton and Mrs Pulver also ran workshops, including weaving, watercolour and mixed media.

Our students have returned from this immersive experience with skills, techniques, and inspiration for their own artworks. The Bundanon artworks, which may later become resolved artworks, will be on display in an exhibition later in the term.
