Inter Diocesan Soccer

Gala Day

On Monday 27th June the Open Girls soccer team travelled to Young to compete in the Inter Diocesan Gala Day, against the winner of the Canberra Goulburn and Bathurst Dioceses. The team started the day playing Trinity College, Goulburn. Kildare dominated the play winning 4 - 0 with goals from Amy Casnave, Elizabeth Dumpleton (2) and Ella Barrell.

The second game was against a strong MacKillop College, Bathurst side. The girls fought hard and created a few attacking opportunities, but Mackillop proved too strong, eventually breaking through the Kildare defence late in the second half to win 1-0. Notable performances included Hannah Ferguson in goal and Grace Holaj in defence.

Congratulations to the girls on a great team effort.

Country Cup

U13’s KCC Rugby League

The U13’s KCC Rugby League team participated in the next stage of the Statewide Country Cup competition at Paramore Park on Tuesday. The Wagga Zone Champions played two games on the day against arch-rivals Mater Dei CC, and Hennessy Catholic College from Young. The winner progressed to the State Finals in Bathurst in August.

Our first match was Mater Dei. Unlike the last time they met, KCC dominated the match from the first whistle. In a very disciplined, impressive display of teamwork, the team played to their structures very well and controlled possession and field position. This didn’t allow Mater Dei to gain a foothold in the game and KCC ran away convincing 22-6 winners. Try’s went to Hamish Inglis, Tom O’Shea, Finn Anderson and Paddy Fitzgibbon. Angus Banks kicked 3 from 4. A wonderful team effort, with hooker Cooper Connolly the Man of the Match.

We then had a very short break before meeting Hennessey College, who had also had a comprehensive win against Mater Dei in their fixture. Therefore, the winner would decide the South West Zone Champions. Hennessey were a big, powerful outfit with some strong, talented footballers, which made the contest a challenging one for our team. Hennessey started the match very well and quickly went to a 10-0 lead which they took into halftime. The game appeared to be heading for a dominant victory for Young, despite the efforts and attitude of KCC. However, KCC came out in the 2nd half extremely determined to fight their way back into the match. This they did with outstanding attack and defensive resilience which resulted in 2 tries to Hamish Inglis and Kobe Gustowski, both converted by Angus Banks, to bring the score to 14-12 in favour of Hennessey, with 2 minutes remaining in the match. Unfortunately, we lost possession in our half giving them an attacking scrum, resulting in a good solo effort from the back of the scrum for a late try to their State Representative Front Rower. This sealed the result for Young at 20-12.

A great team effort yesterday with all players acquitting themselves to the best of their abilities, some carrying injuries, particularly in the 2nd fixture v Hennessey. Special individual mentions must go to the following players for their form over both games  - Cooper Connolly, Tom O’Shea, Lachie Walsh, Hamish Inglis, Kaden Dowling and Angus Banks.  All players are to be congratulated on their attitude and application throughout this year's Country Cup. Also a big thank you to Jody Siegwalt for his support in training and coaching the side. They did themselves, and their College, proud and all bodes well for future success.
