Secondary 7/8

7/8A

There are lots of development in 7/8A since the start of Term 2. We have welcomed new members Rory and Jeremy to our class. We have gone on great adventures together, from Plenty Gorge to Puffing Billy and camp.

We have explored the rich cultures in Victoria by visiting Melbourne Museum, NGV and trying out delicious cultural snacks and Bollywood dance.

All these experiences help us realise the diversity we have on our land and become more open-minded to the differences and changes in life.

Despite our busy schedule and continuous covid interruption, students have shown so much resilience in adapting to the changes and embracing some challenges.

We also have worked hard with Laura for our Spectacular dance practice.

So stay tuned for our awesome performance next term!

7/8B

7/8B have had an exciting and busy Term 2, we have continued to build strong, positive friendships and all students have given everything their best effort. We have been involved in several exciting experiences including, Year 7 and 8 camp, Bollywood dancing, Police Victoria incursion, Spectacular rehearsal and of course our weekly experience days. This term, our experience days have supported our discovery unit where we have been learning about landscapes. To help students understand and learn through hands-on experiences, we have travelled to some amazing places with our friends in 7/8 A and C. The students have had the pleasure of visiting so many different sites such as, Melbourne Museum (rainforest), Plenty Gorge (bush), Ice Skating (ice/snow landscape), Puffing Billy (forest) and NGV. 7/8B should be proud of the dedication they have shown towards their learning this term.

7/8C

7/8C has had a wonderful Term 2 full of many highlights including Year 7 and Year 8 camp, making damper and ochre paint, Spectacular practice and Bollywood Dancing. We have continued to learn about Victorian landmarks and landscapes for our Discovery Unit with our friends from 7/8A and B. We have loved visiting so many different sites including Ice Skating (ice/snow landscape), Melbourne Museum (rainforest), Puffing Billy (forest) and Plenty Gorge (bush). The students have all shown so much resilience in dealing with frequent changes due to absences of friends and staff amid these cold months and we are all so proud of them. We can’t wait to show off our acting and dancing skills next term for Mamma Mia!

7/8D

At the start of Term 2, Secondary 7/8D began a new chapter. Like all good stories there has been some drama (Mamma Mia rehearsals), plenty of adventure (camp/The Amazing Race/CERES), comedy (Bollywood Incursion/Open Morning) and positive character development (Social Competencies). Each week, our class dusted off our passports and travelled around the world. In Inquiry, we explored new cultures, celebrations and traditions. One of the most important lessons from this term is that every nationality and culture should be respected. There is so much we can learn from each other. This isn’t the end of the book. We are only halfway there! So, put in your bookmark before you go and have a wonderful and safe Winter Break.

7/8E

7/8E has had a fantastic time in Term 2. Our integrated studies of cultures and celebrations have provided a rich world for the class’s reading, researching and discussions about different cultures of the world.  The class has also developed a deeper understanding of their own cultural heritage. They have continued to build maths skills, especially in the areas of addition, subtractions and understanding maps.

Some highlights of the term have been the indigenous studies at CERES, our open classroom day where each of the students got to share what they do at school and ask some great questions about the schooling of family members who came to visit and a Bollywood dancing incursion. Another highlight was, of course, the adventurous camps for both the Year 7’s and 8’s where the students got to develop new skills, stretch their capacities, and challenge themselves with fun and dedication.

It's been a joy to teach 7/8E this term. Next term the class is really looking forward to continuing spectacular practice by solidifying their dances and of course, seeing Karen again.

7/8F

Once again, the term has flown by. The students returned refreshed from the Term 1 holidays to launch into some excellent learning. It has undoubtedly been an exciting and busy Term 2, and all students have given everything their best effort. Week 3 came by quickly, and before we knew it, the adventures of the Year 7 and 8 camps began. It was exhausting for all; however wonderful to see students having fun, pushing themselves out of their comfort zone and trying new things in a different environment.

We also enjoyed a great excursion to CERES, learning and developing an appreciation of Indigenous Culture. We continued the learning in our classroom, developing an appreciation of cultures worldwide. Our reading program facilitated it by examining many texts from children’s different experiences worldwide, including in India and Vietnam.

7/8G

Students in 7/8G have had a busy, but exciting term! The term has been filled with lots of fun, adventure and learning. Students have demonstrated significant progress academically and socially and should be extremely proud of their achievements.  Students have continued to form many wonderful friendships and social connections, both inside and outside the classroom.  Year 7/8 Camps provided students with the opportunity to further strengthen friendships and create new friendships. Students participated in a wide range of new and challenging activities and showed great determination and courage. Some other highlights this term include Mamma Mia Rehearsals, our CERES excursion and Bollywood Dancing.

7/8H

We have had a busy term full of learning and fun. We had a fascinating excursion to CERES, developing our knowledge of bush tucker, dreamtime stories and the symbolism behind ochre face painting.

The Year 7 and Year 8 Camps were a great opportunity for the students to challenge themselves by trying exciting activities such as the flying fox and giant ladder as well as getting thoroughly muddy. It was also a great chance for the students to practise their independence while away from home and build relationships with peers outside of the classroom.

We have learnt a lot in our Inquiry Unit celebrating culture, which has given us the chance to share our diverse backgrounds and family history from around the world. We celebrated our achievements with a Bollywood dance lesson, adding some new moves to the repertoire.

ALLIED HEALTH

Occupational Therapist: Nathalie Leane

This term we said goodbye to Erin as she started her maternity leave. Nathalie Leane has taken over as the new OT for the  7/8 PreCAL classes. So far we have started working on social skills, understanding emotions and self-regulation.

Speech Pathologist: Leia Leventis

This term it has been a highlight to attend school camp and see so many of our 7/8 students build their independence, social skills, teamwork and sense of adventure. It was great to see students discussing their favourite camp activities, having UNO battles in their cabin down time and supporting each other to take the Leap of Faith.
