Principal's Report

by Helen Freeman

We have all enjoyed another exciting, productive fortnight at school.

Cross Country

Sheer fitness and resilience have seen Alexa and Zoe move through to the State Cross Country competition on Thursday 14th July. Congratulations to these superstars!

Congratulations to the other members of the Cross Country Team who competed last Tuesday at the Eastern Metropolitan Regional Cross Country all achieving their personal best.

Aerobics

Congratulations to our Aerobics Team who performed last week for their parents in the BER, it’s been quite a while since we have seen the team perform live to an audience and they all did an amazing job. They are practicing hard for the upcoming Victorian Aerobics Championships on the weekend of the 23rd /24th of July at Hampton Park.

Student Representative Council  (SRC)

As you would be aware our dedicated SRC has been working with their classes to support the Brigidine Asylum Seekers Project (BASP) this term. We have had a fantastic response from families, which we are very grateful for. We will be packing up the boxes of donations next Friday and delivering them to the volunteer staff at the BASP office at Albert Park. If you would still like to donate Basmati Rice, Sweet Biscuits, or Boxed Kids Lunch Box Snacks please do not hesitate to send them to school before next Friday. Thank you again for your support of the SRC it has been a rewarding real-life opportunity for our students.

Parent/Teacher Interviews

Parent-teacher interviews will be held next Wednesday 22nd June. The interview will once again be booked online via the Compass Parent Portal. You would have received a Compass Newsfeed last Sunday telling you that the booking system was open and will remain open until 4.00pm on Tuesday 21st June.

Specialist Teachers will be available for some interview times over the evening. Please note that we would not normally expect parents to meet with specialist teachers unless there was a specific concern that needed to be discussed.

A reminder that interviews are scheduled for 10 minutes duration only. Please help to support our families by ensuring you are on time for interviews and finishing within the allocated 10 minutes. If you need more time to discuss any particular issue with your child’s teacher, please indicate this to them before the interview finishes, so that you can both arrange a suitable time for a follow-up conversation.

The purpose of the meeting/interview is:

  1.  To allow parents to discuss their child’s progress so far this year.
  2.  To exchange any relevant information that parents/teachers feel is pertinent to their child’s future learning goals.
  3.  For teachers to discuss any general issues that have arisen since the start of the year.

Reports

From approximately 4.00 pm tomorrow Friday 17th June, you will be able to access your child’s Semester 1 reports from our Compass Portal. Once logged in, you will be able to download a pdf copy of the report and save it or print it for your records. If you misplace your report in the future, you can simply log in to the Compass Portal and download it again, whilst your child is enrolled at SSPS.

Compass is a web-based system that is accessible on any modern web browser or by using the ‘Compass School Manager’ app available for iOS or Android. If you have a smartphone, we encourage you to download the app, as this will allow both parents/carers to receive ‘push’ notifications on your device. Please note that some features of the portal are only available by logging in via the website. If you are experiencing problems accessing your child’s report via the app, then please try to access it on a desktop or laptop computer instead, as sometimes the app doesn’t work.

To access our Parent Portal, go to https://syndalsp-viccompass.education.

To log in to the site, you will need your family’s username and password. If you have misplaced these details, please contact the office, which can reissue you with a new password.

Once you have logged in navigate to the reports section of your child’s student profile page (see instructions below).

Staff Changes

Yes, the time has come to say goodluck to a very special person Tahni Ross as she leaves us to enjoy a new chapter in her life, the imminent birth of her baby girl. We look forward to our continued contact with Tahni as she shares her experiences on her new and exciting journey of ‘mother and parenthood’.

Sensi (Mariko Hioki-Walker ) will be leaving us at the end of the term. She has been offered a position in an Early Years setting to teach Japanese, this is an area that Mariko has a special passion for. We wish her all the very best for her new venture.

End of Term

School finishes at 2.30 pm on Friday 24th June and will resume on Monday 11th July. I wish all our families a safe and restful break and I look forward to working with you all again in Term Three.

Finally, all the best to our SSPS Socceroos who head off to the SDSSA Soccer Round Robin tomorrow. GO SYNDAL!

Have a fabulous week everyone!
