Writing in Term Four

This term the One/Two students have been focusing on developing their writing stamina and sentence structure. Students across both year levels have been engaging in daily writing lessons, focusing on various areas of need.

In the writing lessons, following our school approach to teaching and learning, students observe the teacher model the correct use of capital letters, full stops, letter formation and sentence structure and them with teacher support have a go at practicing the specific skill taught. Students are then given plenty of time to independently practice and master that that skill.

Students have also had fun going outside and practicing their tricky words!

Mathematics in Term Four

Beginning Term 4 in Remote Learning, students developed skills in addition, multiplication and division investigating the relationships between addition and subtraction, and multiplication and division. Students then found items in their homes to measure length using informal or formal units.

As we returned to onsite learning, students continued their measurement topic by further developing their skills in measuring mass using formal units.

We then moved into the Number and Algebra strand investigating subtraction and division tasks. Students participated in a variety of activities to further develop their understanding of these processes, using both written and mental strategies.

This week we revisited time and students were challenged to read and record time on both digital and analogue clocks, then calculate the elapsed time two points in time.

Over the next few weeks our focus will be on: creating displays of data using lists, tables and picture graphs and interpreting these displays; multiplication repeated addition of equal groups, and division, sharing into equal groups; and calendars, reading and recording dates on a calendar.
