100 DAYS OF SCHOOL!

Last week the Foundation students celebrated their 100 Days of School! Last week the students focused on and learnt all about the number 100. In classroom learning activities, students practised counting to 100, skip counting by 10’s to get to 100 and beyond, and finding the place value in two digit numbers.

On Friday, they consolidated this knowledge by completing a variety of 100 themed activities with a focus on counting, skip counting and place value. The day was a huge success and the students had a fun day learning all about the number 100, completing the following activities:

  • The students painted 10 dots in 10 groups to get to 100.
  • Students also coloured in a gumball machine with 10 groups of 10 different coloured gumballs.
  • Head bands were constructed to represent the number 100.
  • The students wrote about what they might be doing when they are 100 years old.

The student’s dressed up in ‘100’ themed attire to help celebrate the day. They looked AMAZING! We had many creative outfits including a variety of 100 year old’s and 100 themed outfits. What a fantastic day it was! The students were very excited to FINALLY celebrate their 100 days of learning!

ENGLISH

During our English lessons this Term, the students have been working hard in all areas of their learning. Our InitiaLit Program has come to an end for the year, and the students have been consolidating all their knowledge learned throughout the year by completing a variety of English activities.

We have been focusing on using our sound-letter knowledge to segment individual sounds in words to read and write them. We have been making attempts to read and spell words with four sounds: CVCC (consonant, vowel, consonant, consonant) and CCVC (consonant, consonant, vowel, consonant) words. We have also been focusing on our use of full stops, capital letters and leaving spaces between our words when writing sentences and making attempts to spell our tricky words. The Foundation students have also been practicing their handwriting skills by making sure they use the correct formation and starting points for their letters.

We have been focusing on the structure and purpose of Narrative writing and have been working hard to create our own Picture Story Book! The students planned their story using a Story Map and created characters, a setting and then planned the beginning, middle and end including a problem.
