The art captains along with some other creative volunteers have begun the final piece of our welcome sculptures at the entrance to the office. Keep an eye out as it continues to grow and be completed.
Foundation students have done an outstanding job learning to weave with paper. Students learned the basic components of a woven object and applied this to a collage project exploring paper sculpture techniques. This was a real test of fine motor skills and they should all be exceptionally proud of how well they demonstrated resilience and persistence.
As we move into the final weeks, students are trying their hand at sewing. This equally challenging task is seeing students rise to the occasion, supporting each other to achieve their goal.
Ones and Twos have been getting messy, continuing our collaborative Papier Mache hot air balloons. After applying newspaper for structure students used old scraps of materials to add colour to our balloons. There has been so much excitement (and mess) in the art room with this project, some adore getting messy while others take the careful approach. The most important thing was to recognise that we all work differently to achieve our goals and sometimes need a helping hand. The next stage is to construct the basket and draw a portrait of themselves to go for a balloon ride. I can't wait to see these all finished and flying on display.
Year three and four have been using their homemade weaving looms to create beautiful woolen patches. This was a real test of their resilience and persistence, having to overcome challenges to achieve their goal. It was such a joy to see the amazing progress everyone made from the first week to the second.
This week we've been drawing stained glass windows to display in the art room windows with students choosing a design or coming up with their own.
Year five and six have been practicing their sculpture techniques by recreating pages from a picture book from plasticine. This warm up activity to sculpture has been a fun collaborative task before we dive into our final end of year sculpture activity.
