From the Principal

Dr. Andrew Cousins

This week we say thank you and farewell to the Class of 2021.  These young ladies have enriched all aspects of College life and have been outstanding Clayfield students and we wish them every success as they embark on their post-school pathways as Old Collegians. I also acknowledge the ongoing support that their families have provided these young ladies and especially acknowledge those for whom 2021 also marks the final year of their Clayfield journey.  We are looking forward to celebrations continuing tomorrow with your final assembly, Thanksgiving Chapel Service and Valedictory Dinner. To the class of 2021, congratulations, and good luck!

On Tuesday evening, our Year 6 and Secondary students and their parents, family and friends attended Speech Night at QPAC.

Speech Night is a signature event in the College calendar and provides a wonderful opportunity to come together as a community to celebrate academic excellence, sporting triumphs, world-class music-making, to reflect on how important it is to be of service and pass the light of student leadership.

We were privileged to have Old Collegian Danielle Cohen (99) as our special guest speaker for the evening. Danielle shared her career story from when she left school to her time as the Chief of Staff to the Health Minister during the first year of the COVID-19 pandemic to her current role as the Chief of Staff to the Deputy Premier.

The pinnacle of the evening was the presentation of the College Dux, Cara Siren. Cara’s all-round success is simply outstanding and worth sharing. Along with being the College Dux, Cara was awarded the Academic Captains Prize, The Japanese Prize, The Specialist Mathematics Prize, The Physics Prize and an Academic Excellence Prize.

Congratulations to all the students who were acknowledged on the evening.  You have worked hard throughout 2021 and thoroughly deserve your acknowledgement.

Last night we held the College’s Annual Sports Awards Dinner. The Sports Awards Dinner celebrates our year in sport and a reflection of sport in general at Clayfield College.

Held at Ruggers Restaurant in Albion, the evening was full of entertainment and featured special guest, Mariafe Artacho del Solar, who is an Australian beach volleyball player who represented Australia at the 2016 Summer Olympics in Rio de Janeiro and the 2020 Summer Olympics in Tokyo in 2021.

It was a great night celebrating a fantastic year of sports at Clayfield College. I congratulate all award winners and thank all the students who participated in College sports this year.
