Foley House News

Mr Stan Kosiek - Head of Foley House

As Term 4 rolls along to its conclusion, there has been a hive of activity in Foley House.

Prior to the Year 12 External Exams a celebratory farewell for our departing Seniors was held where the Year 11s made speeches honouring each Senior. We introduced to the whole house our new Foley leaders for 2022. Congratulations to the following Year 11 students who were selected by their peers: Ryan Watts (Mission), Tom Reed (Academic), Luka Wilde (Culture), Andrew Crook (Sport).

Each year Foley and Gilroy Houses jointly raise funds for Cancer research. The “Smiling the Smiddy” fundraiser is run by the Mater Foundation for Cancer research. As every year, families have the opportunity to buy Prawns and Hams for Christmas at competitive prices. For more information please refer to information in the Newsletter.

In the inter-house events recently, our six-piece House band performed an excellent rendition of, “How to Make Gravy” by Paul Kelly to earn third place. Similarly, Foley teams from each year level put in a great effort to place third the Gilroy Ash Dash. Our chess players competed fiercely in  the  Ignatius Chess Competition, led by Tom Maguire (Year 11) and Angus McDougall (Year 11) performed courageously in the final House event of the year, the Ephrem Rock Climb.

At our House BBQ, I spoke to the boys about gratitude for being thankful for the opportunities given and the need to reflect on the gifts of plentiful resources, loving families and the privilege of a good education. I reminded the boys that with holidays imminent, there would be ample opportunities to provide some greater assistance at home as a small but fitting act of thanks.

Now with only a few weeks remaining, I trust that the boys have their heads down and are working hard in preparation for the final exams. Good luck to all students!
