Performing Arts

Music Matters

As the year draws to an end, everyone agrees that in the world of Performing Arts it has been both sad and frustrating. Conflicting advice and the regulations put on schools mean it has been difficult to run our groups and to perform in the way we would like.

2022 promises to be different.  I am pleased to announce our Concourse Concert in May Term 2 next year. This will be a great celebration and is an important part of the rebuilding of our groups. I intend Choir to return and will be looking for students to be part of that renewal. I am also asking for parents to nominate for the PAPA Committee who will be helping us with this concert.

We are looking for ways to involve the students in Performing Arts and in that way I will be proposing some new groups next year to enhance student involvement. Unless otherwise informed, ALL our Ensembles will return ASAP at the start of 2022 as we look to resume what we hope will be a busy performance calendar.

Caleb is a Year 10 student who is studying Drama at the College. He has lots of experience acting in and out of school and is particularly keen in working in film and television. Caleb was part of the Climate Change movie initiative earlier in the year and directed the Land movie. In every task, workshop and class game Caleb consistently gives his best. He is a natural leader, collaborator and director. He brings other students with him on the journey and is incredibly inclusive when developing original material. Caleb is also an outstanding actor, each role has been incredibly truthful and engaging. These have ranged from Macbeth, Lance Armstrong, a Liverpool supporter, a young hero in a dystopian society and a young convict boy. He is leaving us to head to Bradfield College to follow his dream of becoming a professional actor. He will be missed by myself and all of his friends and teachers. Caleb is a wonderful actor and a very creative young man.

It is with great pleasure that I inform our community that Caleb has also just been offered the lead role in a film being made by students from Canberra University. The short film is called ‘Dylan’ and it is about a mixed Indigenous boy (Dylan) who feels lost and disconnected to his culture. Caleb was up against 40 other boys for the lead role. Caleb has just been informed he has also successfully been cast in a feature length film called “Alakai” playing a tough street kid. Coincidentally this film is being directed and produced by our very own Ms Annie Bryant’s son Sam. We wish Caleb all the very best for his future career. Big congratulations to him for pursuing his dream!

Sam Bryant is still looking for extras for this film. Please see casting notice.
