Prayer for the First Week of Advent

Next Sunday 28 November marks the commencement of Advent and the First Sunday sees the lighting of the Advent Wreath.

May the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace as you trust in him, so that you may overflow with hope by the power of the Holy Spirit. Romans 15:13

God of Hope and Light

Give us hope as we wait for your coming again.

When we are tempted to be grateful to have found you

while others are lost,

send us out into the darkness

in search of those who need you most.

Year 10 Eucharistic Ministers' Course

On Monday, Fr David Ranson our Parish Priest of Our Lady of Dolours trained and commissioned our Year 10 students as Eucharistic Ministers. We congratulate these outstanding young men. Their first responsibilities will be to Minister at the closing Mass for Years 7-10 on Friday 3 December.

Congratulations to Evan Ausling, Marco Balverde, Joshua Bewley, Eamon Boyle, Tom Connaghan, David Giles, Jamie Leong, Jack Lonergan, Christian Moore and Cavan Ryan.

White Ribbon Day – Monday 22 November

On Monday our Mission and Identity Prefects led the school in an awareness-raising assembly for the whole school about White Ribbon Day. Our special guest was Ms Catherine Knox from the Hornsby Women’s Shelter who spoke brilliantly to the school about the issues of violence towards women and that we can all be part of the solution by our actions, awareness and speaking out. This was excellent. I share with you the short talk from Catherine.

Year 5 and 6 made the white ribbons and listed the significant women in their lives on the ribbon.

Lights, Camera, Pius! Film Festival

This week is the Pius Film Festival and we have enjoyed many great films from our students. I congratulate the SPX Student Film Committee and Ms Doyle and Mrs Bryant for leading this annual project.

The judges met today to determine winners and they will be announced during Assembly next Monday.  We congratulate every student who entered.

Our Brilliant Young Writers and Illustrators

We congratulate our Year 5 and 6 students who have had their stories and illustrations published in the Willoughby City Council publication “Did you get my message?” This compilation of short stories and artworks are part of the Wildlife Storybook series and we congratulate Oliver Ibrahim, Toby Wilson, Hamish Sullivan and Ryan East on their stories and illustrations about Jumping Spiders!

Congratulations to James Patchett Year 7

Last weekend James competed in the NSW State Relays and his team won the Under 14 men's 4 x 100m relay in very wet conditions. Another young Pius champion in the making!

Student Lateness and Attendance

I ask all parents to work closely with the school over these final weeks of the term to ensure that students are punctual to school. If your son is away on any day from school please contact the College and advise us of the reason for this absence by phone 9411 4733 (and select 1) or email studentmanagement@stpiusx.nsw.edu.au.

If your son is absent to undertake a COVID test please also email a copy of the result to studentmanagement@stpiusx.nsw.edu.au.

We want to keep all students engaged to the last day of school.

  • Year 11 conclude on Thursday 2 December.
  • Years 5 - 10 conclude on Friday 3 December.

The College has very generous holidays and I ask parents not to take their son out early from school.
