What's happening in the classrooms?

Over the past few weeks moving back to learning at school has been an exciting time in year 6! It has been wonderful to watch the students reconnect with their peers and work together again.

In Inquiry, our big question is “How can I use renewable energy to benefit the environment”? We have been looking into different sources of renewable energy (water power and solar) and how to harness these sources to create energy. The students have worked in teams to create water wheels, and last week, they examined the power of the sun’s heat by seeing how it affects water in different situations over the space of an hour. The results surprised the students, but they were able to work out the reasons behind it. Next up, we will be exploring wind power.

With only a few weeks to go until the school year is over, the grade 6’s are beginning to prepare for graduation and transition to secondary school.  In SEL, students are focusing on their feelings about beginning the next stage in their educational journey.  In literacy, they are writing reflections on their years at primary school.

In maths, students just completed a unit on location and are now looking at the topic of time. On Thursday, they participated in an engaging activity called “magic number”. Ask your child to tell you about it and share one with you.

In Religious Education, students are starting to explore the season of Advent and the signs, symbols and rituals associated with the season. Currently, in the final stages of preparation for Confirmation, the candidates are looking forward to receiving the sacrament.
