PREP

During writing the preps have been learning about procedural writing. We have learnt how to play the game noughts and crosses and even had the opportunity to make our own game using rocks and hessian bags. We will then be giving these to our dad’s as their belated Father’s Day presents as we missed out due to remote learning.

This week the preps will be going on their first excursion. We are super excited to be visiting the Werribee zoo. We can’t wait to go on the safari bus and see all the animals. We also have the Prep Breakfast is part of our school camping program and will be happening next week, Tuesday the 7th of December. The preps will be coming to school in their pyjamas and having breakfast with their classmates. They will then get changed into their school uniform ready for learning that day.

YEAR 1

The Year Ones have been learning  about natural, constructed and managed landscapes in Play based Learning.  We have made constructions out of Lego and paper to show their understanding of these concepts. In maths, we have been working out problems while adding and subtracting by using our doubles facts.  In writing, we are following and writing procedures, taking note that steps start with verbs. When reading, we have learnt and practiced reading and writing  the  sounds for  ‘ j’ for instance ’j’, ‘g’ and  the  trigraph of -dge, and digraph -ge.  New tricky words that have been introduced include ‘water’, ‘other’ and ‘another’.

Next week,  the year ones will be attending the Year 1 Stay Late, which is the next step in the camp program.  Students will eat a healthy snack, participate in fun team games and eat a yummy pizza dinner!

YEAR 2

The Year two students have been doing lots of work improving their reading comprehension skills. They’ve used predicting and making connections to answer questions that show their understanding and continue to improve their explanation of the features of fiction and nonfiction texts.

In writing students continue to practice their narrative writing skills. We have been concentrating on who, where and what at the beginning of a story and using descriptive words to make their writing more interesting. Examples from Vithushan and Aya from 2B below.

In Maths we have been revising Addition and Subtraction and Multiplication and Division and asking students to show how they got their answers.

Play based learning activities have been all about New Zealand  and Indonesia with students having a great time learning and practicing the Haka as well as other fun educational tasks.
