News From the Brolga Room

The Brolga’s have jumped back into their learning and this week have begun their brand new Inquiry investigation all about Inventions and Inventors. To kick off our study the kids participated in a “What am I” session where they were asked to figure out the purpose of some rather peculiar items and inventions from the past and present. Throughout the term they will be researching a specific product or process and then innovating on this idea to make it even better. Stay tuned for further updates.

In our Literacy time we will be having a brief focus on Poetry and all the devices that poets use to engage an audience. Students will be analysing and sharing a range of poems and looking at ways to present them in engaging ways. After this we will move on to study Information Reports.

In Numeracy, students have been looking at money. They have looked at how to solve problems that involve simple purchases and how to represent money totals using various note and coin combinations. Our assessment item, where the students had to design and calculate the cost of a unifix cube model for a child allowed the students the opportunity to show their understandings. This piece will available on Compass in the coming weeks.
