Year 5/6 News

We are in the second week of Term Three and have already started the first in a series of lessons about out themed unit The Grade 5-6 Small Business Venture / Market. We have been learning to identify the difference between “needs” and “wants” . Students are developing their understandings about how advertisers make us believe we “need” their products or services.

In Maths we are learning about fractions. Students began the topic by completing a self-assessment on the various fraction skills they can apply without or without teacher assistance. They had to prove they could complete the skill to move onto the next skill level. Students have been learning the vocabulary associated with fractions as well as how to add and subtract fractions. We are also completing real life problem solving tasks with fractions.

In Literacy we are learning about the four types of nouns as well as the structure of a narrative. Our class has also been introduced to the trigraphs “dge” and “tch” and the rules of when to apply these sounds in spelling English words.

We have an exceptionally busy and exciting term ahead.
