Principal's Update

We have had a very successful Open Night with over 500 attending.  It was wonderful to have nearly 70 students, over 20 parents and our School Council support us on the evening.  We had a virtual tour app that families downloaded on the evening and used to navigate through the school at their own pace.  Our amazing staff were able to provide highlights of the teaching and learning at each of the stations.  I would like to thank all those involved in making the night a success.  We have weekly tours for prospective families which continue to attract large numbers who wish to see the school in operation.  Our students are certainly excellent ambassadors for what we have to offer.

Our vision that all learners can flourish when the school environment provides the conditions that promote curiosity, challenge and community is further supported by the Gonski recommendations. We have a commitment to the pursuit of academic excellence across a diverse and engaging curriculum, both in and outside the classroom, which is inclusive and responsive to the diversity of learners. A significant focus on employing highly capable, collaborative and creative educators to ensure that the teaching and learning is of the highest calibre. This ensures that our learning community is:

  • Research and evidence based with a mix of creative, practical and inquiry based learning
  • Project based learning experiences, reflecting the world around them
  • Differentiated, personalised and challenging for all students
  • Collaborative and develop independent learners

The Beaumaris Secondary College culture is flourishing as we embed our CORE values of curiosity, optimism, respect and excellence across the whole school.  Teachers are seeing the benefits throughout the learning process as students are motivated to ask questions, the high quality of work as well as students creativity being enhanced.

We are pleased that the Review to Achieve Educational Excellence in Australian Schools or Gonski 2.0 findings support the teaching and learning program at our school.  The report was released at the start of this month.  The review highlights the following:

We recognise that we are still in our early stages of building and refining our whole school program.  It is wonderful to have so many parents supporting the learning and providing positive and valuable feedback to us as we work together in educating the students of Beaumaris Secondary College.

The Innovate program will foster and establish connections that provide students the opportunity to understand the global community and how their decisions and actions have an impact locally and further afield. They will develop a sense of place in the world and understand the issues within a global context.

Innovate is a project-based program where all learning can be incorporated into student driven projects. Students work at their own pace and level so there is built in flexibility.  Students work in small groups although at times individually, depending on the focus of the project. The Innovation Lab is the hub of ideation and creation.  They will use the Innovation Studio/Lab to develop and create their project. Students will also have the opportunity to share their work in a showcase or expo at our INNOVATE nights which are held each semester, students will present to both parents and the local community.
