Attendance
As stated in our previous newsletter, we all want our students to get a great education, and the building blocks for a great education begin with students coming to school each and every day.
Our school is committed to providing the most accurate attendance data to families in a timely manner. We have been working closely with Compass on a couple of challenges that have been raised by families including SMS alerts being sent due to a student not attending an event but choosing to attend normal timetable classes.
To try and avoid these situations we are asking our families and staff to work together to ensure the attendance data is correct by following the steps below;
- Warrnambool College staff will ensure to delete any student from an event that haven’t consented or paid by the due date – we encourage families to check Compass to ensure they know when the cut-off date is for each activity/event
- Students not attending the event are to attend normal classes
- We would encourage families to let the WC staff member in charge of an event if their child isn’t attending a planned event – this will mean we can delete the student from this event
- You can inform the teacher via the event on Compass or email the teacher directly
After analysing our 2018 absence data, we have identified some factors that are beyond control such as student illness and medical reasons, however such things as unapproved absences and family holidays are two categories that can be improved.
We encourage families to ensure they approve any student absence via Compass and to contact our House Leadership staff if you require any support with student attendance at school.
There is no safe number of days for missing school. Every Day Counts.
