CAGS 2020 LEADERS & NEW HOUSE ❤️💛💙💚

Cobram Anglican Grammar School is delighted to announce that due to our continued growth in student numbers we are introducing a fourth Sporting/Competition House for the 2020 school year.

It is serendipitous that 2020 will also see the school's 20 year celebrations!

The Parkes House leaders in the Middle and Senior Schools have been chosen and they will be the first to proudly lead their team wearing the colour GREEN from our first sporting carnival in 2020.

The Junior School leaders will be selected in the coming weeks. We are very excited to be able to give current students the opportunity to join with these leaders and represent Parkes House in 2020.

A lot of time and effort goes into ensuring that our houses are even and fairly populated, so whilst we can't guarantee that all those who nominate will be successful, or that all those who don't won't be asked to migrate, we will do our best to accommodate the wishes of our school community. Notes have gone home to families this afternoon regarding this process. Please contact the office if you did not receive one.

Congratulations to our newly elected house leaders for 2020:

CONGRATULATIONS Mrs Melonie Smith

Last Friday Night, our very own Mrs Smith was awarded the Australian Maths Trust Inspiring Teacher Award  at a ceremony at Wesley College in Melbourne.

The AMT Teacher Award recognises an outstanding contribution in the teaching of mathematics/algorithmics within the Australian school community.

The nomination was initiated by Year 8 CAGS student, Cadence Pang. Thank you to Cadence for sharing Mrs Smith's passion for maths and her ability to inspire her students to reach their potential something our school is so fortunate to relish every day.

CONGRATULATIONS Mrs Smith!

"Mrs Melonie Smith is probably the greatest math teacher I have ever had. Many people think that math is a boring subject, but Mrs Smith makes it fun. Every math class is filled with wicked jokes (emphasis on wicked), hilarious stories and comical examples that will capture the attention of all students and help them understand complicated problems. I always look forward to Mrs Smith’s classes. Even though Mrs Smith is very busy, she always finds extra time to help students. In addition to the many extra-curricular and curricular activities she conducts, Mrs Smith puts aside an enormous amount of time and effort to help her pupils, especially the Australian Mathematics Competition (AMC) students. She browsed for multiple advanced worksheets to prepare us for the competition. She has sought out past year papers, to give us a feel of the problems. During Monday and Wednesday afternoons, she stays at school to help the AMC students learn and work out equations that help us with the competition. Mrs Smith is a very entertaining and dedicated teacher, who has made significant impacts to many of her student’s lives. I’m grateful for having such an outstanding teacher in my life."

LIDS FOR KIDS

The "Lids 4 Kids" movement has saved millions of plastic lids from landfill. These are then passed onto a Melbourne-based charity Envision Hands, which makes artificial limbs for children.

There are now almost 7,000 collection points around the country, and 36 groups helping process the donations.

EDGAR Insurance Brokers are the local collection point in our region and CAGS now have buckets both outside the office and at the canteen thanks to Jane Overeem who has kindly organised this on behalf of the school!

Be sure to save your lids and drop them into our buckets so we can hand over to the team at Edgar's in the coming weeks for such a great cause!
